Of the southern and eastern parks, the eastern parks are the most easy parks to reach, espaecially when you combine them with a stay at the coast or on Zanzibar or Pemba.
The eastern parks are:
Mkomazi NP
East of Kilimanjaro Mountain, the Tanzanian part of Tsavo Park became the Mkomazi National Park. A special sanctuari gives home to some black rhinos and in the park you can find the very rare African Wild Dog again. The semi-dry climate of the Sahel Arc in the savanne-area takes care of some species not found in the rest of East Africa, like the generuk, fringe-eared oryx and the lesser spiral-horned kudu. Together with over 400 species of birds including some very rare ones, this is an interesting park. The views are overwhelming, the mountains rough and beautiful.
Saadani NP.
This is a special park because of its position at the shore. The Zaraninge rainforest is part of it with its many plant-species, leopards and elephants. And the also present impressive mangrove forests herds hippo’s, kingfishers, eagles etc. A pleasant way to explore this park is by boat over the Wami river combined with walking. In the neighbourhood there are interesting fishermen’s- and coconut- villages. The most easy way to get here is by air from Zanzibar.
southern and western parks
The southern and western parks are quiet, because they are less easy to reach. So when you have enough time, they’re worth to spend some of it there!
